We Sail off on the World’s First Floating Igloo Fondue Experience

skuna igloo boat review

We head to the world’s only floating igloo fondue experience, for a magical après-ski adventure, gliding through Canary Wharf.

Skuna Boats has reimagined what boats can be, with hot tub boats, barbecue boats, and even the world’s first sauna boat.

We are here for the twinkling, snow-capped fleet of igloos, which are gently bobbing between skyscrapers and crisp, blue skies at their watery wonderland on West India Quay.

If you’re wondering where the world’s supply of Hygge is, it’s crammed inside these igloos. The wind is zipped away from us in our private cocoon, and we’re surrounded by glittery snow, festive trees, candles, cosy alpine cushions, and blankets.

There are also Bluetooth speakers for our chosen music - sadly, KPop Demon Hunters songs, since two of our party are seven and four.

At the centre of our circular womb is a table, beautifully set with plates, cutlery, and red gingham. We are brought welcome Alpine snacks by the super jolly staff (nuts and popcorn) and prosecco for the grown ups.

Then our little igloo jets off for a 30-minute guided tour of West India Quay’s historic, 18th Century docklands with a Skuna Skipper, waving to people on the banks from our incongruous, sailing igloo, like a whimsical Pizar movie scene.

Our Boxer enjoys resting his jowls on the cushions and watching the skyscrapers slide by, on this dog-friendly experience.

Back at the mooring, our skipper theatrically steps into our igloo with an enormous, chocolate fondue feast. There’s a cauldron of thick, melted chocolate, heaving with a halo of artfully presented strawberries, pears, bananas, doughnuts, marshmallows, pastries and every other conceivable treat you can submerge in chocolate.

It’s a dreamy hour, as our children happily cover every fibre of their beings and clothes in chocolate, dreaming up new flavour combos, as we soak in the cosiness and views from our festive cocoon.

Guests can also opt for an equally delicious cheese fondue option - which we’d have gone for, without the company of sprogs - featuring potatoes, cornichons, bread and cured meat selection.

It’s an utterly unique way to have a simply fondueful Christmas time.

We LOVE hearing from you. Honestly, we do. But recently we've been inundated with emails from miffed people who have had subscription payments taken from their accounts. Rather than reply to you all individually, we thought it best to let you know that it's NOT FROM US. We don't take subscription payments because we're a free online magazine and that's not changing any time soon.

If that's what led you here, we recommend heading over to www.twsgroup.com. They're not us, and we're not them!
