maxi micro scooter

Maxi Micro Deluxe LED Foldable Scooter

The perfect marriage of Swiss-level safety engineering with a glorious, bold design and super-smooth riding makes for the ultimate kid’s scooter.

The stylish neon orange and blue colours brighten up trips to school. It also features jazzy light up (battery-free) wheels and a brilliantly simple, foldable design. In one click, it’s down and can be easily carried or stored away. Genius.

Our little tester adored the design and how smooth the lean steering is - the extra-grippy, moulded silicone footplate meant he didn’t slip off, and its super responsive braking system gave us added peace of mind.

They have literally thought of everything - even the rubber grips are toxin-free.

Brilliantly, the scooter grows with the rider, from ages 5-12, with a height adjustable handlebar, built for growth.

It’s a winning combination of durability, portability, safety and fun design, designed to build children’s gross motor skills, hand eye coordination, core strength, spatial awareness, and confidence.

zoo print camera review

Zoo Print Camera

Words haven’t been invented to describe how much we love this adorable, instant-print camera.

The point-and-shoot camera instantly prints black and white photos directly from the camera in high resolution, or stores them for printing later. This is a huge hit with our excited little tester. The 3 print rolls it comes with double as stickers, to easily pop the photo art onto fridges, cards and books.

Brilliantly - for grown-ups - it uses snazzy heat transfer technology, which means your child can happily snap away, without you worrying about expensive ink cartridges.

Its sizeable 32GB memory card is ideal for snap-happy kids, storing up to 2000 photos or 4H videos. There’s a lovely, bright 3 inch colour screen, lots of fun filters, settings, and selfie mode, and it can easily be switched between camera or video mode. It comes in a gaggle of super cute designs, from unicorn, fox and bear to our choice, the brilliant Dino. The perfect gift for mini Rankins.

Mr Maria Dinosaur Lamp

First Light Dinosaur Lamp - Mr Maria

If there is a cuter dino lamp than this, we have yet to meet it.

Mr Maria are alchemists in creating statement kid’s lights to brighten up any room, from the iconic Miffy lamps, to these Jurassic beauties.

Available in three dino designs -  Rena (pictured) Nova and Mira - these child-safe, wireless and rechargeable lights emit a golden, cosy glow, in differing brightness settings.

Our tester’s face literally lit up when he opened this lamp, which has transformed his bedroom.

It’s also sustainable - made from 30% consumer waste - which is another big tick from us.

legacy hydro drip stunt scooter

Legacy Hydro Drip Stunt Scooter

Legacy Scooters bring snow-cold cool this Christmas, with the galaxy-inspired Hydro Dip graphic of this deliciously hipster scooter.

Suitable for children aged eight and above, our tester loved the design as much as the super smooth ride.

It’s equipped with a Hi-Ten Steel Y Bar and a 6061-T6 Aluminium Boxed Deck, plus smooth IHC compression, for the perfect blend of weight and durability, which makes the ride wonderfully easy, safe and fun.

Since it’s a stunt scooter, designed for jumps and tricks, it’s also super sturdy and robust.

An out of the world gift for kids to ride into the new year.

dreamstories

DreamStories book

Sometimes children test Santa’s magical capabilities with a request like: “Dear Father Christmas, I would like a story book all about ME.”

Luckily, we can point his elves in the direction of DreamStories, which allows elves (and parents) to create kid’s stories featuring friends, family and even pets.

We found the process super easy. We simply added images of our two children and dog, along with names and ages, and the website transformed them into a photorealistic adventure book.

There are a range of adventures to choose from and multiple books in the series.

Pleasingly, you can preview each page and click a button to alter images and designs if required, before accepting the book for publication.

And within a couple of weeks, a beautiful quality book is in your hands to add some bespoke magic to bedtime stories.

yoto mini

Yoto Mini

The Yoto Mini will save your Christmas Holidays and beyond.

The award-winning, multifunctional, Yoto Mini audio player is an ingenious, screen-free solution, supporting independent play, listening and learning from ages 0-12+.

They have an enormous range of cards for all ages, including Disney and Julia Donaldson, Roald Dahl, Marvel, and Horrible Histories.

Our testers found it invaluable at bedtime, on long car journeys and trips away, sharing one Yoto with Yoto Headphones, which have a daisy chain feature to allow two sets to listen together.

It also has a gaggle of (child AND grown-up pleasing) functions and features, including a clock; OK-to-wake settings (can I get an amen?) its own daily podcast; family radio stations; as well as endless hours of free stories, music, podcasts and sleep sounds.

Myfirst camera

myFirst Camera 3

This powerful, 16MP camera allows children to capture high quality images and videos with ease.

The huge hit for our little testers, was its brilliant macro lens, which enabled them to capture incredible, close-up photography of their surroundings.

Naturally, the lens-switching selfie mode was also very popular, as well as the playful borders and themed effects.

The HD video creation has also become an obsession, filming their own cookery shows making cupcakes or documenting day trips. We love how compact and lightweight it is for little hands, and it’s super simple to use.

It includes a shockproof pouch made from high-tensile polymers that help protect against bumps and drops. And it’s backed by a 1000mAh battery and expandable storage up to 32GB, for extended use at home or on the go.

Geosafari telescope

GeoSafari Starview telescope

This out of this world telescope is designed specifically for children aged 7 and up, to explore space from the comfort of their garden.

We were amazed by the 10x and 50x eyepieces, which meant our little testers could use it in the day as well as the night, switching between low and high magnification to observe the moon, stars, birds, and planes.

It’s simple to use, lightweight and is the perfect STEM learning tool, taking them away from screens through real-world exploration.

hornby santa train

HORNBY - Santa’s Express Train Set

Next stop: CHRISTMAS. This beautiful Santa’s Express Train will be delivering lights, sound, movement and magic this December.

The easy-to-assemble track is perfect to run around the base of your Christmas tree - it’s also an unforgettable way for the shelf elves to arrive on December 1st.

Or choo-choose to gift it to your little elves, who can integrate it with other Hornby sets. Our mini testers loved the magical effects of the lights and noises as it chugged around the track, with its beautifully detailed carriages laden with golden teddies, gifts and sweets.

Its eco-friendly, rechargeable batteries are a big win for the grown-ups, and it is brilliantly study, to steam through endless Christmases to come in a cloud of magical nostalgia.

Iron Man playset

Iron Man and His Awesome Friends Iron Quarters Playset by Hasbro

Our Marvel super-fan was blown away by this two in one playset, which is crowned with an Iron Man mask that can also be worn, for the ultimate role-play.

There are more than 40 sounds and phrases (naturally “Time to Armour Up” is a favourite) and fabulous features include a falling monitor, a Hulk-Smashable wall, a lift which magically armours Iron Man up in helmet and wing accessories with jazzy lights and sounds; a stairs-to-slide trap, and flight arm.

It comes with poseable Iron Man and Ultron action figures and five accessories, and there are a gaggle of figures which can be collected separately for it.

Luckily, it’s as sturdy as Iron Man, so will survive the relentless rough play it will receive from its enthusiastic owner.

3Doodler pen

3Doodler Start+ 3D Printing Pen Set

This is the perfect gift for little creatives. The safe, wireless and easy to use pen enables children to make 3D designs, from toys, buildings and ornaments to jewellery and anything else their imaginations fancy.

My eager little artist loved the fact that the creations solidified in a flash and the creative freedom she had without wires (thanks to USB charging) and we didn't need to worry about burnt fingers, because the low-heat filament is safe to touch. The mega bonus for parents, is that this is mess-free art - it's non-adhesive and easy to clean up.

This kid-friendly tech has opened my child's mind to brilliant new creative possibilities, and it's her favourite toy to bring ideas to life, with an endless succession of doll house food, spiders, key rings and tree decorations.

It comes with 72 colourful strands of plastic filament and a long lasting battery when charged.

Scalextric review

Let’s Play Scalextric - Race Set

Scalextric has made a massive comeback, and this is the perfect toy to introduce the next generation (aged 3+) to the joys of slot car racing.

The kit is easy and quick to assemble and in no time, we are racing our cars across an eight figure race track.

The cars are super sturdy and resist all bumps and the magna traction race track means the cars stay on the track, even at high speeds - there are four speed settings for minimal crashes, as children improve their skills.

Pleasingly, when disassembled the kit takes up minimum storage space.

Our tiny testers were utterly absorbed and the Scalextric mantle has been passed on - at least until they’re in bed, then it’s our turn.

Airbrush maker

Maped Airbrush Maker

This safe, rechargeable and super-fun new gift invites children from 5+ to create vibrant, graffiti-inspired art.

Our budding Banksy was immediately addicted. She simply popped one of the 12 colourful pens into the electronic airbrush and pressed the button, to fire designs out onto the customisable foam board or paper sheets which come with the kit.

There are a gaggle of letter and graphic stencils which can be used, along with graffiti-inspired stickers to customise the art. She loved experimenting with different colours and the impressive effects from layering up and making her own stencils.

Maped are experts in designing innovative products that nurture imaginations and encourage children to learn, and this product ticks all of those boxes, in luminous spray.

Spell Seekers Book

Spell Seekers Interactive Talking Spell Book

This is one of the most magical kid’s Christmas gifts of the year.

The talking and interactive spell book takes children on an adventure, creating potions, mastering spells and unlocking the book’s secret to reveal exciting surprises.

The book responds to the magic wand, which children wave to cast spells, make new magical friends, and learn new potion creations.

It’s brimming with interactivity and imagination. Our daughter was breathless with excitement, when she placed the spell sheet into the Spell book and saw the spells magically appear on its cover.

She loved the quest map, choosing which new lands to explore, and rummaging through the spell chest to create the three guided potions in the provided cauldron.

Once they complete all of the challenges, they finally become an official Spell Seeker. Pure magic.

Doteki

Doteki 2 Player Pack

This brilliantly addictive game is part pinball and part tabletop battle system.

Players fire the ion (ball) at the opponents’ Blitz targets - the button between the opponent’s controller flippers. With each hit, their character loses one click. When all six clicks are out, their monster figure falls off and the band detaches from their controller.

They must swiftly move their battle controller from side to side, hitting their velocity flippers to deflect their target and fire it back. The battle controllers connect and stretch to create expandable arenas that can include up to ten players - additional sets can be bought separately.

It’s an utterly unique game, requiring skill, strategy and quick reflexes and is perfect for anybody from eight and up.

Matilda book nook

Matilda Book Nook

Stop all the clocks, Roald Dahl fans - the most adorable and creative gift has just dropped, in the shape of this Build Your Own Matilda Book Nook.

This eco-friendly kit offers fans of all ages the chance to create a detailed diorama inspired by Matilda’s cosy reading nook - inside an actual Matilda book. Meta-Matilda.

Simply press out the details from Quentin Blake’s original illustrations, easily slot them together and arrange your kid’s magical little book shelf world.

Details include Matilda’s armchair, stacked books, and pieces like the famous newt, hair tonic, and chalk box.

We had so much fun creating it together and bringing the story to life. And an added bonus is that each kit is made in the UK from 100% sustainable cardboard

fact or fake game

Fact or Fake Game

This utterly addictive and hilarious electronic trivia game has a built in Game Master who hosts the show with a built in voice.

Firing out more than 1000 brilliantly bonkers statements, you must decide what is fact or fake, in this adrenaline-pumping, button-smashing game. Was the Pringles packaging designer really buried in a Pringles container? Did a man once eat an entire aeroplane? Find out, in this weird and wonderful family game.

no brainer game

No Brainer

The Bop it creators know how to create insanely addictive, pick up and play games.

And this rapid fire yes and no game is their latest offering.

There are no rules to read or pieces to set up. Just grab it and go.

It’s simple to play, but tricky to master under pressure. Flip the brainiac head forward for yes or shake it for no.

Some questions are daft “what farts? Dad? Umbrellas?

It sounds easy, but when you have just seconds to answer, it’s amazing what you can get wrong.

Our family played this on loop, individually - trying to beat personal bests - and together. There are four modes, so no two games are the same.

And it’s perfect for fast paced Christmas Day family games with big laughs.

copy doodle draw print

Doodle Copy Draw and Print Set

This creative doodle pad is the first product of its kind, allowing children to design artwork and then watch it print out instantly.

This innovative, new set was a huge hit with our arty little tester, who got a thrill from seeing her art being printed with the press of a button, ready to be coloured with the provided crayons.

Cunningly, it uses colourful carbon paper to create the prints, so you don’t have to worry about expensive ink cartridges.

It’s a wonderfully unique alternative to screens, encouraging them to sketch, trace and doodle a professionally printed masterpiece, with ease.

magic clay jewellery maker

This is the perfect gift for creative fashionistas to craft unique rings, pendants and bracelets from fast-drying clay.

Our tester adored the independence of the kit’s kid-safe oven, ensuring the creations were ready in under three minutes.

It’s easy to use, with five vibrant magic clays and a gaggle of tools - plus a super satisfying roller - for their bespoke designs.

It comes with assorted gems, beads, transfers and sparkles for up to 20 designs to wear or share - as well as handy tutorial sheets. The Magic Jewellery Maker Station now has pride of place in our tester's room and we suspect she'll be keeping her production line well stocked with magic clay over the coming year.

This ingenious art studio in a box enables your wee Warhols to create 3D textured masterpieces.

Each pack comes with a colourful desktop studio with compartments for the four fluffy paints with different nozzle tips, four watercolour paints, 10 posters, 10 white watercolour sheets, decoration charms and texturing tools.

It’s a brilliantly addictive and satisfying way for them to bring artworks to life, either using watercolour and fluffy paints on the provided posters, or creating their own designs from scratch.

This was an instant hit with our seven-year-old artist, painting, layering and decorating vibrant pieces which literally stand out.

Fab Lab bracelet maker

Fab Lab - Colour Spin Bracelet Maker

This wonderfully addictive and satisfying kit allows children to create gorgeous, Heishi-style bracelets, but without the fiddly threading.

Our tester simply popped the rubber tube on the spindle, pressed the button and unleashed the colourful pens, to create fun, frustration-free patterns.

She loved seeing the magic happen, as she coloured the spinning jewellery.

And it comes with everything they need to make 15 bracelets, from tubes, clasps and markers to templates.

Perfect for children aged six and up. Our little elf loved it so much, we were relived to discover that refills can also be purchased to use it again and again.

robo alive review

Robo Alive Deep Sea Monster Surprise

The opening of this toy was almost as exciting as the toy itself.

Our tester eagerly delved inside the barrel on a slimy treasure hunt to discover more than 20 surprises (from stickers to more slime) including an extraordinary, water-activated sea monster, which comes to life.

Digging through slime, he uncovered octopus parts to assemble into a wonderfully colourful sea creature.

The real wow factor is its extraordinary movement - when dropped in the bath or placed on the slime, it perfectly mimics the motion of a real octopus, and the eyes glow bright yellow. Even the grown-ups were impressed.

It turns bath time into an adventure and is his favourite new companion, in and out of the tub.

Have your kids jumping for joy in the nearest muddy puddle this Christmas, with these brilliantly stylish kid’s wellies.

An impossibly beautiful (and sturdy) doll’s house which neatly folds back into a book that you can neatly store on a shelf? What black magic is this?

We adore Ingela P Arrhenius’s beautifully illustrated book/toy, which has stand-up characters to play with, along with colourful furniture, accessories and props to build, and stickers for kids to decorate the house to their taste.

There is even a handy drawer within the book to store the press-out pieces, which makes it the perfect toy to entertain them on flights and at restaurants, and a great space-saving alternative to traditional doll’s houses.

Each page/room has cupboards, fridges and drawers that can be opened to add depth and excitement to the play. And if you flip it over, there is even a garden with a slide accessory for outdoor play.

scruffaluvs

Scruffaluvs

This mystery pet rescue toy is a delicious surprise for little ones - will they rescue a puppy, bunny or kitten?

The toy looks like a scruffy ball of fur, when first removed from the cage.

But once it's washed and groomed with the provided comb, children gleefully discover which animal they have rehomed.

There are also adorable accessories - clips and collar - to make the animals their own, as well as a pet carrier to take them around in. A very cute and deeply cuddly toy, with a lovely, caring message for little ones.

Mystery Flying Snitch

Harry Potter Mystery Flying Golden Snitch

This clever flying snitch is a brilliant gift for little wizards to wow Muggles with over Christmas.

Wow! Stuff’s award-winning toy creates impressive flying illusions, using invisible Aramid thread.

With a little practice, our pint-sized Potter managed to make it seem as though the snitch was flying around her body and responding to her hands - the special effects are enhanced by the fluttering wings of the gadget, activated via a battery powered button.

Each Golden Snitch comes with a Quidditch poster and a special plinth to proudly display your winning snitch... when they’re not showing off doing tricks with it.

Aqua Puffs

These Skillmatics magic 3D art sets are the new obsession in our house.

This kit has 15 cute animal creations to colour in with the ten markers.

Marbles, dinosaurs and mazes - the perfect, screen-free combo for our little tester.

This roarsome maze has handles for the player to artfully navigate the marble through all five check points and climb the central tower to freedom.
