“You look well rested,” another mum comments, on my first day back at the school gates after six weeks of juggling children and work like 20,000 molten potatoes.

Five hours later, when I've stopped laughing and asked a nearby nurse to stitch my sides, I ponder this.

Throughout the summer holidays, I have been diligently using the extraordinary FAB Skincare LED Mask by expert facialist, Laura Porter. And the effects have been remarkable, even on the weary chops of a working, post summer holidays mum of two.

Unlike many other LED Masks, this bad-boy comes with an attachment for the chest and neck, as well as a separate LED face mask, both operated via the same control.

It also has four different light settings (red, yellow, blue and Infrared) so you can tailor each treatment to your needs, and adjust the intensity of the energy output.

The red penetrates the deeper layers of skin to combat signs of aging, while the infrared wavelength targets the deepest cells, to speed up skin healing and reduce fine lines and wrinkles - at 43, these are the lights I use the most.

It’s non-invasive, pain-free, and there's no down time. These two wavelengths stimulate ATP (adenosine triphosphate), to help cells regenerate, heal sun damage, and work more efficiently, while boosting collagen production.

The blue light helps destroy acne-causing bacteria while calming inflammation and scars, increasing skin oxygen and brightening skin tone - this foiled a mild eczema breakout I had, within days.

The yellow light balances skin texture, hydrating, firming and smoothing skin, to reduce fine lines, redness and acne marks. I incorporate five minutes of this into each treatment.

The mask is light, flexible and super comfortable, with adjustable velcro straps. There are even cushioned eye protectors for extra comfort, and to prevent the glare of the lights from interrupting your vision during the treatments.

And it’s super simple to use. You can choose the treatment length - between 10 and 30 minutes - and flick through each of the light settings, like a wrinkle-busting Christmas tree. Merry Facemas to me.

Handily, the rechargeable, cordless design means I can potter about the house, work and frighten the odd child, while reducing my fine lines.

Professional LED Facial treatments cost more than £100 an hour, but this £395 mask delivers professional grade results at home within weeks, with just three to five sessions a week, while watching Netflix in your comfies.

FAB Mask review

Some of the results took just days - my eczema flare up was nipped in the bud within two sessions, using the yellow light.

After a week, my skin was plumper and more dewy. And after three weeks, I noticed significant changes - my skin was firmer, and the fine lines around my eyes, mouth and forehead were noticeably reduced.

And after six weeks, when it was time to return to the school gates, its wizardry had given me such a healthy glow, even skin tone and reduced puffiness and fine lines that I managed to pull off the ultimate feat of looking “well-rested” after the summer holidays.

It’s the ultimate game-changer in skincare with mind-boggling results.
